overall, this an engrossing and entertaining book that will delight readers who love historical fiction, vampires or a combination of both. i was impressed by its scope and i highly recommend it. moreover, i look forward to reading the next chronicles.

Bound By Blood is by far the most historically rich and detail oriented vampire novel I have ever read. I appreciate the lengths the author went to in his research, and commend him for a truly unique and extraordinary vampire read. The story he creates of Dracula's beginning and his rise to infamy is intoxicating and steeped in true historical events that will have history and vampire buffs alike begging for more. And as an added plus, the author weaves in incredibly touching bits of erotic romance, thrilling tales of political and religious corruption, and a cast of characters that retain individual voices and a believable complexity. This is the mark of a truly gifted storyteller.

I must admit that this book is very violent at times, but readers who enjoy true, uncensored vampire lore will love the horror themes. If you are squeamish or sensitive to violence and gore, then this book may be too much for you.

O'Neill's debut vampire novel is one that should be marked as a TRUE vampire novel. It's not pretty, it's not fluffy, and it most definitely isn't Twilight. This is a REAL vampire doing some pretty awful things, as evil vampires should. As long as you're okay with the violence, then you will easily add this vampire book to your stack of favorite horror novels.
Bound by Blood by Shane K.P. O'Neill is a very well written story with a natural flow that's evident that the author has found his "voice" - something many authors envy. I have no doubt that O'Neill's enthusiasm in the vampire genre reflects throughout the entire story.

The vampire genre with blood-suckers is a subject that has been written over and over again, and still there are a few authors such as Stephanie Mayor, Chuck Hogan and Guillermo del Toro that manages to come up with a new interesting "niche" in this gender. Well now there is another author that can join in that group and that is Shane K.P. O'Neill. Just like the Twilight Saga and The Strain (Trilogy), O'Neill has managed to do the unthinkable. He has found a new angle and twist.

WARNING SPOILER - What really made me fall for this story is that O'Neill introduced a new concept in the vampire genre with a focus on Dracula; He has two sons...are they good or evil? Well that you have to find out yourself.

The character development and the setting are very well written.

From the beginning to the end the entire story will keep you on your toes!

The Dracula Chronicles - Bound By Blood is the first volume of what I hope are several installments in this great new series. Shane O'Neill has created an epic tale set in the 15th century about the struggles between good and evil and through the use of historical references, as well as his very vivid imagination, he has created a world worth a close look. O'Neill seamlessly blends folklore and mythology with actual history to create a dark and disturbing picture of Dracula and the time period in which it is set. This is not a romanticized version of this well-known tale and, in fact, through its use of actual historical figures it manages to bring a healthy dose of "reality" to bear. I found O'Neill's choice to take this approach very interesting and it serves the story and his viewpoint very well.

Bound by Blood has graphic moments; but how could a book about Dracula not? But amidst the treachery and mayhem, there are moments of hope and humanity. This is a very good book and I have no doubt that fans of this genre will enjoy it immensely. This series is a great addition to my reading list and I'm looking forward to seeing where Mr. O'Neill takes it in subsequent books.
